Eye scream, you scream

While I have posts in the works, I decided it was best to stay off the laptop for a few days. The weather is getting colder and the first decent cold snap means my head goes wonky. My head hurts. My eyes hurt. The thought of staring at a computer screen a good chunk of the evening makes me cringe. If I do too much then I risk a horrible headache turning into an even worse one or worse yet, a migraine.

While I don’t get them too often when I do they are a doozy – auras, nausea, blurred vision, tingly skin, numbness, wobbly walking in various combinations and levels. Safe to say that isn’t something I want and hopefully I won’t get hit with one soon. I’ve recently added magnesium to my vitamin intake since I read various things (articles NOT anything from an actual doctor visit however) that said it is supposed to help.  I am unsure if it was a placebo end result but it did seem to help a really bad headache that I was worried would kick over to the dark side (and this particular one doesn’t have cookies.)

We will have to see after a longer period of time if this definitely works well or not. I’m watching my dosage and trying to follow the guidelines. The bottle was on sale for a little over $4. With it being so cheap (and a name brand too) if it doesn’t it wasn’t a ton of money lost.

Music Monday: Record Store Memories

I found out about Povi years ago via  a compililation CD purchased at a local music store that I absolutely adored. They were great people and clearly loved and knew their music. They would even call at times to let us know something we wanted or might like had arrived.

I think this is a great driving, as well as hooping song.

Fashion Friday: The Great PJ Debate

I would like to think something slept in wouldn’t be topic of debate. You are asleep after all. In my case that would work extremely well if I lived alone but I get to subject Darth Husband to my variety of schlumpy nighttime attire. Yes, that’s right schlumpy.  He called it frumpy which I agree with too. Lazy is another option.  Convenient and comfy are two more.

There are so many options but, thing is, if my butt or feet are cold I can’t sleep. I might fall asleep but then I’m waking up more so than when I have too much tea much too late repeatly.  Most of the time the super warm/super comfy options aren’t the most glamorous. Cute? Yes.  Glamorous? No.

PJ variety

I refuse to rock the ankle length flannel nightgown though. My friends actually gave me one in red plaid as a bachelorette party gift. (They were smart and included the gift receipt as well.) It’s all about finding a happy medium. I have some button-up shirt/pant combos that I adore and will not get rid of until they are worn out. (That means the ducks and the dogs/dog bones options are staying.) I’m planning to find some fleece pant/long sleeve top options for this winter season. I just need to search through the oodles I’ve seen out already.

Are you picky with pjs? Have you debated your choices with your signficant other?

Wow: 100th post and a thank you

This is the 100th post in this incarnation of CSYA.

WOOHOO!

A HUGE thank you to:

  • the friends/blends and readers of my “little blog that could” as it has chugged along at varying speeds
  • the blogs that inspire me and make me want to make my blog as good as I can
  • the blogs that aggravate me and make me want to make my blog better
  • my friends who have pushed me not to be afraid to post outside of my comfort zone
  • the various online series/themes that have led me to step outside of my idea box
  • the conferences I’ve attended that taught me about blogging and the community
  • the people I’ve met that knew me from the blog/twitter

Here’s to the next 100 posts. You never know what’s gonna be around the next corner so it’s time to crank the stereo, put one some shades and hit the gas!

Music Monday: As I Now Make You Want to Go Play Guitar Hero

Despite years of musical training, classical doesn’t always sit well with me. Piano makes me want to break things after awhile. Anything heavily dependent on strings however has me captivated.  I adore covers done that way as well.

If you have never heard of Vitamin String Quarter, I highly recommend checking them out. They cover a ton of different songs and styles.

Fashion Friday: Just Add Handmade

I’m a firm believer in finding jewelry in non-traditional places. By traditional I mean chain jewelry stores, the mall, and chain stores. While I am not saying that you can’t find good/fun/nice stuff there, there are so many other places to try.  Online venues like Etsy, craft fairs and markets and even little shops when you are out-of-town on vacation lead to great finds that are DIFFERENT.

I like finding pieces that are different because they make me feel good when I wear them. The likelihood of me seeing someone wearing the same thing is very small. If this does happen though there is that sense of” COOL! You know about this great (whatever) place as well.”

While Nikabee and Iwere wandering about the most recent Renegade Craft Fair,  there was a booth that literally made us both go OOOH! and we had to go check it out. It was beautiful mosaic jewelry by Staci Sterenberg.  I immediately saw these earrings and grabbed them.

I had to protect keep them out of the hands of anyone that might want to take them far far away from me.

Yes, I am being over dramatic but it was the reality of the situation. I HAD to have them and obviously did buy them.  The color scheme is one that I wear pretty much every season (lighter side in warmer weather and darker in cooler) and so I knew I’d wear them quite often. I have worn them numerous times and gotten numerous compliments about them.

One thing that many people have said was about them being so different. DING DING DING! We have a winner since different is what I like!

You can find her creations as Staci Sterenberg Mosaics on Facebook and as RestnPieces on Etsy.

NOTE: I recevied no compensation for this post. The earrings were paid entirely with my own money.  I just absolutely fell in love with them immediately and will definitely buy earrings from her again.

Oh look! Flaming noodles!

I am a firm believer that you learn something new every day. The most recent is that rice noodles are extremely flammable. I’m talking “goes up like a birthday candle” flammable.

I was almost done making dinner – a spicy Asian style stir fry. A few noodles were not yet in the water and just up against the side of the pot. This was one moment that having good pots and pans (chosen by the Caphalon loving Darth Husband) did not work well in my favor. The heat is seriously conducted very well. Too well. Luckily I was standing right there, was able to put the noodle out right away, and it didn’t go from scary to dangerously scary. (Note: We have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen and I SERIOUSLY think everyone should have one.)

Have you had any scary moments in the kitchen?

When life gives you lemons, screw the lemonade and make maracas

Yes, maracas.

Made out of hollowed out lemons and filled with pony beads.

Purple pony beads so it will be contrasting colors even though you wouldn’t see it.

So I have clearly lost my mind decided to approach my Zumba class a different way. It is not Zumba. It is dance aerobics which technically would be the overall umbrella fitness approach. I’m moving for an hour so in the end it should do something especially if I make a point to put in the effort.

After putting on my big girl yoga pants (working out in slouchy saggy butt pants didn’t work) I shimmy, shake and bounce my way about. I modified some stuff and mashed it with other classes.  Was it exactly the routine? Nope.  Was I probably messing up someone watching me from behind? Probably.

The thing that got me so aggravated before was that I wasn’t getting the fitness level I needed.  I think admitting it, snarking a bit and posting about it made me realize this and decide to change it.  Will I get the result I had wanted? Probably not. Will I have a chance to laugh with the BiL’s gf? Definitely.

How can you not when a N’sync song gets played?
