Back in June of 2002 (the 12 according to a quick search) an old guy friend of mine and I went to see P!nk perform at the Rosemont Theater. It was an amazing show and even then she was an amazing performer. I remember her doing cartwheels across the stage and not missing a beat.
While this isn’t the actual show, it was from the same time period.
I don’t know how many times I’ve listened to Missundaztood or any of her other releases prior or post that particular one. Let’s just say a lot. I always think back to that show and the powerful energy that she shared with the entire crowd. Everyone has someone, or a few someones, that they sing along with when they need a bit of a boost back to a “Listen up I’m here and I am important. You can put me down” level. P!nk is one of those someones for me.
Last week was my first Zumba class. Well, technically it was my first Zumba class. I had taken a class before but it ended up being more of a Zumba/belly dance hybrid. Since it didn’t end up what I had expected, I consider last week’s session my first.
I enjoy group classes. They work well when certain factors are there.
Good space: enough room to move around even if there are lots of people
Good temperature/ventilation: too cold means all shivery, too warm means lethargic, not enough fresh air means feeling light-headed
Good music: upbeat without being annoying, able to be heard but not blasting where you can’t hear the instructor
I deliberately left the instructor off that list since I think it is a topic that can stand alone. I have had great instructors in so-so spaces and not so great instructors in amazing places. It is all about finding a balance of both.
I was very pleased with this instructor. Very very pleased to the point where I thanked her at the end of class.
Energetic but not at all annoying, ready to get everyone moving but no raised voice
Open to questions and gave lots of background/explanation for the class
Understanding in terms of the class and the wide range of ability/ages – definitely good when you see someone take the time to make sure all levels are being taken care of properly
So enough about everything else. Time to talk about ME!
Are you done laughing now? Yes? Ok, me too.
I went to the class anticipating to work my butt off and come home a gross sweaty mess. DING DING DING! Success! I started off with a bit too much oomph because I was having a good experience. Luckily I realized this from the level of my water bottle and I got myself at a good level. Since it was at least an hour class, I didn’t want to push too far too fast and then be too worn out at the end.
The routines were able to be done at each persons energy level yet not being different for the most part. I tried to give an extra push here and there when I knew a step from the prior class. The one where it is step forward-side-behind (yes that is the technical name for it) was one that had me totally tripping up before. Now I messed it up maybe once or twice that I noticed but overall I was happy I had that working.
I learned that I was doing one of the hip shake moves wrong too! I got a little extra help and definitely could tell the different. Two days afterwards I could really feel it. Safe to say this time that move will get results!
I came home tired but feeling good. I need to figure out a balance between coming home from class and unwinding but I know that will take time. I can’t wait til next class!
Have you ever taken Zumba? Are you a fan of group classes?
“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans” – John Lennon
I have always like that Lennon quote because it is true. While I had a great number of post ideas and blog changes, life got crazy busy. I decided to step away from the laptop since it forced me to rest a bit more in the evening.
In terms of CSYA, I have plans and plots and ideas. While I can start them all at once, it is better to be realistic… and interactive.
I still have my cassette tape of Different Light by The Bangles. Being the first of my Music Mondays, I thought it only appropriate to start with a song I played over and over on numerous Mondayas throughout the years. I find myself with it stuck on my head on the train or when I actually decide to make my bed.
I recently went to a store’s website to look at pants. Realistically it isn’t that big of a deal. Type in address. Go to the women’s clothing section. Select pants. Look at pants and decide which to try on eventually at aforementioned store. It is nothing new. I’ve done it oodles of times. The thing is, I didn’t remember what was going on until after the website wouldn’t work. It was overloaded.
If you didn’t guess by now, I’m talking about Target and how the mad rush for Missoni crashed the website and probably lead to crowds at the store. My main focus though isn’t technically on that particular brand. While it is popular and all, I personally never coveted anything of the line. To each their own. If that is your OMG MUST FIND deal, more power to ya.
Over the years there are always that particular brand that you have to have to be cool/in/make you happy/spend a ton of money. Growing up I wasn’t barred from trendy brands but there was a more realistic approach to it. I might not have had Z Cavarici jeans but I still had the zipper ankle with the bows on the back of my jeans. I had two I.O.U. sweatshirts – one was a gift (purple and black stripes) and the other I was able to pick out (forest green inside out style that was supposed to be worn inside out with the puffy paint letters.) Maybe that was the other way around. It was a long time ago. There were probably other things that I would have been in fashion to have but I can’t remember. I do remember having red leather high tops and navy blue loafers with fun tassels (prior to my anti-tassel shoe phase which is still on going.)
After that it was grunge/alternative (one pair of Jncos) and the land of dark denim/black top combo that can be found in way too many college group photos. If there were more I can’t remember. Someone will probably say something and I’ll do the “ohhhh yeaaaaaaah.”
Basically my approach is if I like it, it is good quality, a decent price or on super sale, and it is a fancy brand so be it. If it isn’t and all other of the list are included then so be it as well.
Are you a brand name person? Does it not matter much to you? Are you anti-brand names?
Now that the temperatures are starting to feel more fall-ish, the grand pumpkin debate will start. It seems like once fall hits everyone is going pumpkin crazy. I’m guilty as well especially since Darth Husband and I have already gotten our first pumpkin spice lattes of the season. HOWEVER, I honestly think that apple pie/apple spice doesn’t get all it deserves.
Yes, I am rallying support for apple pie. Maybe it is due to my goal of making an apple pie this fall. While I have baked apple pie, I honestly cannot remember when other than that it was prior to us having this house. With our wonky oven it will be a challenge but hopefully one that I can manage.
Darth Husband loves pumpkin pie. It has to be middle range – not overcooked nor undercooked. When we find the right level he’s in heaven. I’m not anti-pumpkin. My grandmother makes an amazing pumpkin pie from scratch and that is my breakfast the day after Thanksgiving every year.

Recently I was given the opportunity to do a review of Adora Calcium. Being a chocolate loving person it worked out quite well and I was sent each of the flavors, milk chocolate and dark chocolate. So here is the run down.
tastes like chocolate - no chalky or odd texture and no aftertaste
two flavors give me options – milk chocolate more often by itself, dark chocolate more so along with something else like tea
knowing I’m getting calcium, vitamin D, and magnesium since I too often forget to take calcium pills
small size and individual wrapping means easily carried in my bag or purse
as someone who often gets a cranky stomach, I’ve never had any problems
Not liked as much:
Only come as separate flavors – both in one bag would definitely be something I would purchase
Price is slightly higher than other calcium supplements I’ve gotten in the past
Overall, clearly the likes are more than the not-as-much. I have no medical issues that require me to watch my supplemental intake so this works really well for me. I find myself eating Adora very easily which is much better than me forgetting to take a supplement in pill form.
So Adora works for me. Now here is the chance to see if this works for you as well. One person will be able to get their very own Adora Calcium.

Let me know in a comment your favorite “kind” of chocolate. It doesn’t need to be a specific brand or even chocolate in candy form so hot chocolate etc will work too!
